The residence permit for financially independent persons (FIP – more precisely “residence permit for persons with sufficient means of subsistence”, type I.8) is regulated by article 163 par. 8 of Law 5038\/2023. More specifically, it is provided that if a citizen of a third country has received an entry visa (national entry visa \u2013 visa D) as a person with sufficient means of living<\/strong>, he\/she can request from the Aliens and Immigration Department of his place of residence in Greece the granting of a residence permit, if the applicant is able to prove that he\/she has sufficient resources at the level of a fixed annual income to cover living expenses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It was recently clarified (June 2024) with a decision of the Greek Ministry of Immigration that under the new law 5038\/2023, the amount of sufficient resources increases and specifically is set at the amount of 3,500 euros per month<\/u><\/strong>, an amount which is increased by 20% for the spouse or the partner with a cohabitation agreement and by 15% for each child of the applicant.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The increase in the amount of sufficient resources is quite significant and therefore limits the possibilities of the applicants being included in the said regime.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It should be noted that if the above conditions are met, the person concerned is granted a residence permit with a duration of three (3) years, which is renewed for an equal period of time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
